Our Legacy to the Future
In 1928, founder John F. Malley charged the delegates of the Grand Lodge Convention with laying “the foundation of a more stately mansion—a temple of philanthropy with a dome so vast that it will cover the entire nation.” Like Malley, many of our donors are visionaries. They can see the wonderful possibilities of the Elks National Foundation, and want the influence of their good deeds to continue forever. They want to leave their legacy to the future. Why plan a gift?A legacy gift offers you an opportunity to make a more substantial gift than might be possible during your lifetime. Gifts can be structured in ways that are both personally satisfying and help you meet your financial and estate-planning goals.By choosing the Elks National Foundation as the beneficiary of your planned gift, you can demonstrate the Elks’ belief that charity is the greatest of all virtues and that the purpose of this life is not “to have and to hold,” but “to give and to serve.” Through a legacy gift, the influence of your philanthropy will be perpetuated, even after you are gone.Where There’s a Will, There’s a SayThe first step in ensuring that your personal objectives are accomplished after your passing is to have a thoughtfully conceived will. A will is a simple but vital tool that allows you to determine the ultimate disposition of your property, and yet 80 percent of adult Americans die without one. A will allows you to: • Leave instructions for the transfer of your assets to family, friends and other intended beneficiaries. • Name a personal representative to handle your affairs and execute the instructions left in your will. • Name a guardian for your minor children, aged parents or other legal dependents. If you do not have a will, make an appointment with your lawyer today to have one prepared. Periodically review your will to ensure that it reflects your intentions, and make sure that it is complies with estate laws. How can you leave your legacy? Now that you have decided to leave a lasting legacy to the future, what are your legacy gift options? There are many different planned giving choices, ranging from simple bequests in your will to Life-Income Vehicles such as Charitable Gift Annuities and Charitable Remainder Trusts.Typical legacy gifts include, but are not limited to:• Charitable Bequest. • Gifts of Appreciated Stock. • Gifts of Life Insurance.• Charitable Gift Annuity.• Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust. • Charitable Remainder Unitrust. For more information about legacy gifts, contact your financial advisor and together, visit www.elks.org/enf/MalleySociety.cfm.John F. Malley SocietyWe invite you to become part of a group of very special people who have planned gifts to the Foundation.
