ELKS “HOOP SHOOT”
The 2011-2012 “Hoop Shoot” season is upon us and Lodge Chairman and District Directors are coordinating with their schools, recreation departments and youth groups for the upcoming season. Last year the “Hoop Shoot” program was introduced to over 400,000 boys and girls in our state. The success of the “Hoop Shoot” program in New Jersey is due to the dedication, hard work, team work and support of the local lodge “Hoop Shoot” committees and their Elk volunteers, Exalted Rulers, Vice Presidents, District Deputies, District Chairs, Regional Directors and State Advisors. Without this united effort, this program would not be possible. We continually receive letters from contestants and their families praising our program and thanking the New Jersey State Elks Association for providing the youth of New Jersey with a program that promotes good sportsmanship and competition in a safe and healthy environment. Our goal this year, as in every year, is to have 100% participation of all our lodges in the state. I am asking for your support to achieve our goal. Working together as a team we can accomplish this goal and increase overall participation. State “Hoop Shoot” Meetings are held at 8:00 pm at South Plainfield Elks Lodge #2298, located at 1254 New Market Road, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 (908)668-9750 or Peggy Berry at 732-681-6597 Meeting Dates Are As Follows: September 13, 2011 October 11, 2011 November 1, 2011 December 13, 2011 January 10, 2012 No meeting in February State Finals February 12, 2012 (Snow Date February 19, 2012) March 13, 2012 No meeting in June due to State Convention Other Dates to Remember: December 4, 2011: All subordinate Lodge contests should be completed and all paperwork to District Chairperson(s). January 15, 2012: All District contests should be completed and all paperwork returned to Regional Chairpersons. February 12, 2012: State “Hoop Shoot” Finals at South Plainfield H.S. at 9:00am March 23-24, 2012 – Regional “Hoop Shoot” Finals at Coughlin H.S. in Wilkes-Barre, PA 9:00am April 26- 29, 2012 – National “Hoop Shoot” Finals at Western New England College in Springfield, MA |
