New Resource for Veterans-Make the Connection!

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Make the Connection Campaign

Elks and members of our communities can support Veterans who are experiencing hard times by visiting and sharing MakeTheConnection.net, a website that connects Veterans and their families and friends with information, resources, and solutions for living more fulfilling lives.

This approachable online resource links Veterans and their loved ones to hundreds of testimonials by Veterans from every military branch, service era, and demographic group as well as their family members—all sharing their stories of overcoming challenges by seeking support. The site also provides a locator for Veterans’ resources across the country and reliable information about mental health and resilience, conditionssigns and symptoms, and life events, such asphysical injury and retirement and aging

Visit MakeTheConnection.net to explore the site and download print materials to distribute. You can also visit the Make the Connection YouTube channel, “like” the Make the Connection Facebookpage, and share their content with your friends to promote the message: Support is available and treatment works.

Vice President message for June 2020

I would like to start by saying I am humbled to be VP Elect, of the Central District. This District is certainly the shining star of the State.  Although, we are starting under challenging circumstances and many people lost their life due to the pandemic. There are still people in need that rely on the Elks and as in the past I am sure we will rise to the occasion. As we begin with the cancelations of Youth Sports Day, Walk out on drugs, Camp Moore, Jim Hall Memorial run, Miracle run and the monthly bingos held at the Menlo Park Veterans Home, there is still so much ahead and pending on restrictions being lifted Flag Day and Batters Up is right around the corner.

It is encouraging to see District Chairs staying in touch with their committees via E Mail or Zoom and Lodges using grants to help our Veterans, Front Line Covid Workers and Food Banks. Our President elect, Peggy Berry, held a State Reorganization Zoom meeting on May 19th and is looking for out of the box ideas for fundraisers through this difficult start. The information for the new State Book is being sent to the publisher. She announced our Grand Lodge Sponsor, Malcolm J. McPherson, PGER would install the President, District Deputy and VP Elects, via Zoom on June 5th.

Going forward I would like to thank all the District Chairs for accepting the responsibility of keeping our committees organized. I could not do it without you and your commitment.

Since the day of the election, there have been numerous amounts of information being compiled. I would like to thank PSP Stephen J Terrible , PSP Francis J. Decibus, PSP Peter D. Smith and VP Dan DeZaio for their wisdom and knowledge.

God Bless our Veterans, First Responders, Nurses and all front line workers.

Central District VP

Jeff Van Woeart

Message from the District Deputy GER – June 2020

This is my last letter as your DDGER, and I must thank everyone for their help, and I will start with my wife Paula for being by my side every step of the way.  I also had a great team, Barbara Muller, Secretary, Dennis Kopik, Esquire and Sam Fisher, Auditor, I thank them for lending their time and experience during my year.  I could not have done what was required of me without their help and guidance.  I had great support from my lodge, and I thank them once again for the great homecoming dinner dance they hosted for me.  The PER’S of my lodge must be thanked as well for, not just the ritual at my home coming, but for bringing in over 50 new members and doing the ritual from memory.  Great job!  As I went to each lodge on my official visits, I thank all the ER’S and their officers for the warm welcome and cooperation my team received, we were there to help.  I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed being DDGER and going to lodge picnics, fundraisers and just going out to the lodges when I could, I thank you once again.

I saved an incredibly special thank you for the ones that believed in me: that would be our district advisers and PDD’S.  Francis, Pete, and Steve and all our PDD’S, I thank you for the support you gave me before and during my year.   I must not forget to thank our state sponsor PGER Malcolm, for supporting me as well.

In just a few short weeks, Dan Larsen, will be our DDGER and in these changing times we must support him and his team as they must guide us in the coming year.  They will need the cooperation of every lodge in dealing with FRS. Some lodges have completed their reports for the year ended March 31. 2020, where others have not.  It has been nearly impossible to help those lodges needing help on FRS over the phone, once we start having meetings again, needed training can be organized.

Once social restrictions have been lifted, please support your lodge and district by going to fund raisers and the club rooms for social events as often as possible. Each lodge has lost revenue and needs any help you can give.  So, look to the district calendar for coming events and support your district.

Congratulations once again to all the new ERs and the returning ERs.  Have a good year and remember I am only a phone call away, should you need me.

I cannot wait to see you all, but for now, Stay Safe and Stay Home.

May God protect our Troops, First Responders, Doctors, Nurses and our members and especially God Bless America.

Fraternally,

James Kopcho, DDGER
